its a shame that nowadays on these washing adverts that mums have become less mumsy if you know what i mean. they have become more pretty and model like.
To my American ears, it’s very noticeable that Persil “washes even whitah” (as opposed to “whiter”, with a hard “er” sound at the end of the word.)
I love these 50 ´s ads. It´s not just a commercial it is almost an opera. Super shiny !! super adorable!!!
I don’t know if this was the case when this ad was made, but I once heard that they used light blue shirts for filming detergent commercials because they looked “even whiter” (or grayer) on black-and-white television. Really white shirts would have dazzled the image pickup tube in the first TV cameras in the 50s…
Hi bongomanfromdalou,
Persil in Australia has been called Omo for many years now, but you arte right it was Persil for quite a long time, I cannot tell you the reason why,but this was told to me by a Unilever rep when I was in charge of the cleaning aisle at the supermarket I worked at in my younger days.
persil smells good
new persil washes even whiter.
funny that this was made in the fiftys where there was just black and white TV’s. today those whites will look a little grey. we have Daz and ariel to keep our clothes white. oh and persil as well. and for those stains on those white shirts we can use vanish oxi action crystle.
If I understand correctly, Persil is made by Unilever and is to most Brits and Australians what Tide is North America…
This is a classic 1950s detergent commercial, no matter where it came from!
There was a version of this in 1957 or 1958, in Britain, using real girls instead of cartoons. The script was the same. Does anyone have a copy, or can anyone direct me to where I could find it?
I was wondering what Persil is. But once I heard the accents I knew it wasn’t a American commercial. Neat. Thanks for posting.
Great to see – thanks for posting, LOL!!!
Anybody remember an ad for Persil around 1992 I think, which was about a family on a yacht getting their clothes stained with all kinds of food and drink. If anyone has that particular then please post it here as I’d like to see it again.
I just love these old ad’s
I’m going to buy one right now!
